If an item can be searched for in a database of items, it is search for the item in the database and the return of results is displayed in the system tray along with the name of the item that was searched for. All the hotkeys used for search and item lookup are saved in a simple txt file so that you can easily use the hotkeys and their definitions. If you do not have any items in any of the databases that are searched for then it will only use Google (default) or sysinfo.org. If you have items in all the databases that are searched for then it will use all of them. The hotkeys are: i - Goggles SysInfo - search sysinfo.org, navigate to the item and retrieve the item's sysinfo data. f - Google - search the Google and select the item to look for it in Google. b - Bing - search the Bing for the item, select it and then look it up in Google. g - Google - search Google for the item and if found, select it, if not found, it will look it up in sysinfo.org and if the item is not there, it will then use Google. o - Open the item in the default viewer if this program is installed. d - Dumping saved logfile in the system tray. k - Restart the hijackthis service. I - Copy HijackThis Log Item that has been selected to the clipboard m - Show the Item Details of the Item that has been selected. m - Show in the System Tray the Item Details of the item that has been selected. v - Show Virus Information of the Item that has been selected. V - Show System Information of the Item that has been selected. h - Run the scandk tool from one of the HijackThis log files that has been specified. t - Run the All-in-one scan tool. q - Quit. T - Show the Virus Details of the Virus that has been selected. Q - Quit. Hey there, I have been using HJT for many years and it has been invaluable, what I am worried about is that my hijackthis log is huge and takes up most of the space, the search feature can also be a bit confusing and it might take you a while to get used to it, I am looking to find a good alternative for it, a tool that does all
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HJTHotkey is designed to speed up the researching of items in a HijackThis log once it has been posted onto a forum or from some log file. It will run in the system tray and when a hotkey/shortcut key is pressed, it will copy the word that has been selected and automatically search for that word in places like Google, sysinfo.org or one of the offline databases depending on the hotkey that is pressed. The databases used are: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Anti-virus\2012\cachename.dat C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Anti-virus\2013\cachename.dat C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Anti-virus\2014\cachename.dat Depending on the hotkey that is pressed, HJTHotkey will either search the databases for the specified search term or it will search the google website for that term. ========== - Most hotkeys have a letter, number and sometimes punctuation (eg % or *) in them. - Key macros work out which letter/number the hotkey was pressed and it's then sent to the HJTHotkey program where it is searched in the location of your choice (eg Google, sysinfo.org, etc) - HJTHotkey will automatically check to see if the program that is running has an instance of HJTHotkey running (ie a hotkey) and it will register the hotkey in case the program is not running. - The easiest way to get started is to open an existing hotkey, enter the details of the hotkey in the HJTHotkey window then right click on the hotkey and select "Register". - Hotkeys can be selected from the register window from the drop down box under "Hotkeys". - Hotkeys can be located under the Hotkeys drop down box under "Recovery Keys". - To start a hotkey simply enter the letter and hotkey number into the HJTHotkey window, either from the hotkey text box or from the Hotkeys list box. - You can have several hotkeys of the same name but with different numbers (ie hotkey1, hotkey2, etc). - You can use various characters to determine what the hotkey is (eg. *, %, ,?, @, &, []). - After you have registered the hotkey, you can assign a shortcut key (eg. CTRL-S) to the hotkey in the HJTHotkey window. - You can change the hotkey text under the hotkey when registered in the HJTHotkey window. - You can also register a hotkey to a menu command, for example CTRL-N to show the Notepad window. - You can register a shortcut key to the registry entries in the following directory (registry folder): I did not include a screenshot here, but my definitions are as follows. I need to add more. As you can tell the Registry Folder is where the system registry is and the %temp% folder is where temporary items are stored. Now to really get started, I need to get HijackThis to run from Start>Run or as a.bat file with all the correct paths to items in the Registry Folder.2)
